I saw this on TV a few nights ago. OUTSTANDING!

The Marines always get the coolest commercials.

Sorry iof I burst the bobble of illusion here, but I also know people who make commercials like that. We have a certain term for it. No use though for me to bring it here because nobody would understand it, but it means "trying getting more bodies in..." and that's how they look at it.

The commercial is well made, don't get me wrong, I just hate the cheap trick. But alright, those that are bound to fall for it do probably need to join the army for a wake-up-call!

Anyway... I would like to tell you what a great job you are doing with this blog! I loved the comments/stories on the war-stories-post and reading about everyone who picked up an AK-47... I feel like adding... well perhaps it's also the only damn thing that actually works in those conditions?!

Anyway, great stuff and how did you get it??? people just send you mails or what???
I like the honesty and the directness. Also your initial post re your own background and remark about the... well how shall I put it? the fact that many stories are twisted or and censured is very true! So I really appreciate that you are trying to do something different here and that people actually come with genuine comments!

Sarah Sofia,

Sarah, I was lucky enough to stumble upon this blog today and I watched the commercial that I have actually seen many times. I am sorry but I would really like for you to clarify a couple comments you made, please.

In your first paragraph you appear to disparage the commercial as though it was either fake or edited very well. You also went on to say they were "trying to get more bodies in..."

In your second paragraph you mention the commercial is well made but you call it a cheap trick.

Probably the most disparaging/insulting comment you made was calling this a "Cheap Trick" designed to get people who "fall for it" to join the Army.

Okay, now I would like to clarify a couple of points. First is the fact the Army has nothing to do with this "commercial", and it very well may be "staged" as you are referring to. Did it ever occur to you that whoever taped this could have been assembling a collage of this precision team as they practice their different moves or from the many performances they perform across the country?

What you don't understand is this is a commercial(?) for the United States Marine Corps. This unit is actually a team of "real" Marines. They belong to a 24 member USMC Silent Drill Platoon stationed at USMC headquarters @ Marine Barracks Washington, 8th & I. They serve a tour of 2 years and practice many hours and perform at many events across the country.

Also, ever since it's inception date of November 10, 1775 it has been an all volunteer organization. This means that even though you apply, it doesn't guarantee you will be accepted.

I hope I have been courteous in my explanation because I want nothing but the best for you. Good luck ongoing.
